This is Hardcore

I’ve had this song stuck in my head since I was browsing Pitchfork’s Top videos of the 1990’s. Pulp has always been a band that I’ve wanted to like more, but only a handful of their songs have stuck with me. ‘This is Hardcore’ is the epic title track of their 1998 album. It didn’t do as well in North America as a follow-up to their big single, ‘Common People’, which made them somewhat of a one-hit wonder to most people. ‘Common People’ is an amazing track, especially to dance to, but ‘This is Hardcore’ just feels like a band at their creative peak. Take a gander at the video below:

Sadly, Pulp is no longer with us, but lead singer Jarvis Cocker has a couple solo albums out continuing the Pulp sound and tradition.

  1. That was wonderful, thank you.

I only know Jarvis as a scruffy hipster artist that always get mentioned on indie music blogs. I didn’t know he had a Britpop past and that he looked yummy back then. Will surely check him out.
