Top 5: The White Stripes (R.I.P)

It kind of felt like it was bound to happen with all of Jack White’s ‘Other’ bands, but The White Stripes officially announced their end today. The band has this to say, via their website:

“The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong
to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is
that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your
involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.”

I remember picking up White Blood Cells at A & B Sound just before ‘Fell in Love with a Girl’ took off. I also remember being scolded at CJSR for playing them two weeks in a row. Maybe they were a bit too popular for the station at the time, but I was playing the deep tracks. The DEEP TRACKS!!!

Here is a very quick Top 5 of my favourite White Stripes songs. I hope my fellow co-authors can join in as soon as possible.

5. Rag & Bone – from Icky Thump

4. The Hardest Button to Button – from Elephant

3. We’re Going to Be Friends from White Blood Cells

2. Hello Operator – from  De Stijl

1. Ball and Biscuit – from Elephant

It’s a sad day in music history. The only positive is that you will be certain to never hear a bad White Stripes song. Great choices for the top 5. My personal favorite is still “Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine”. Most ridiculous guitar solo ever.
